Who We Are

Our Story

First Baptist Church was founded in 1861 by Mary Klapp Heberd and four friends who longed for a gospel-centered church in Vincennes. The congregation dedicated its first building in 1864.

Our current home on Wabash Ave. was dedicated in 1995, and since 2019 we have gathered for two blended worship services each Sunday. More than 160 years later, our mission is unchanged: to love God, love people, and serve the world.

What We Believe

We hold to the historic Christian faith: the Scripture as the inspired Word of God, the Godhead as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the Christ as fully God and fully man, the Holy Spirit who indwells every believer, Salvation by grace through faith in Jesus alone, and the Church as the body of Christ sent into the world.
